About…
I'm Victoria Hodgson, a contemporary landscape artist based in Northern England and the founder of Northern Art House.
My work is shaped through time spent on the hills, trails and wild places of the North. From the Lake District and Pennines to remote stretches of coastline and open moorland, these landscapes continue to influence the way I see, feel and create.
Rather than documenting a specific place, I aim to capture something less tangible, the atmosphere of a landscape, the quality of light before a storm, the stillness of an empty path, or the feeling of standing beneath a vast northern sky. My work sits somewhere between observation and memory, drawing on both the physical landscape and the emotional connection we form with the places that stay with us.
Working across painting, drawing and mixed media, I create instinctively, allowing texture, mark-making and layers to guide each piece as it develops. The process is as important as the finished work, with each painting becoming an exploration of light, distance, atmosphere and place.
I am less interested in following trends than in creating work that feels honest. The landscapes I paint are often quiet and spacious, inviting viewers to pause, reflect and bring their own experiences to the work. Whether depicting distant paths, shifting weather or open wilderness, my aim is always to create a sense of connection.
After a decade building Feather & Wild, I created Northern Art House as a space that reflects my evolving artistic practice and a deeper commitment to creating work that is personal, thoughtful and grounded in experience.
Today, Northern Art House serves as both my studio practice and a place to share original artwork, limited edition prints and ongoing explorations of the northern landscape.
